The worldwide numbers of the coronavirus


According to Johns Hopkins University, the global death toll from the coronavirus is nearing 1.8 million, and about 82 million cases of the virus have already been detected.





In the run-up to the New Year, the head of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has said there will be new pandemic-related challenges in 2021, such as mutations of the virus, and praised the role of science in overcoming them.


Currently, among the most affected nations are the US (19.5 million infected, 338,000 deaths), India (10.2 million cases, 148,000 fatalities), and Brazil (7.5 million cases, and a death toll of over 192,000).
